Want to learn all about the famous, Norwegian packed lunch called “matpakke”?

In this class, we’ll do a deep dive into this unique phenomenon!

The traditional Norwegian matpakke consists of slices of freshly baked bread (often as open-faced sandwiches) with a favorite pålegg (fillings and toppings).

In this class, we will make the most popular Norwegian påleggs from scratch.

You’ll learn the key to a successful Norwegian lunch box, and how to build a typical open-face sandwich, and which combinations work best.

In class we’ll make the following dishes together:

“No-krell i tomat”

A vegan version of “makrell i tomat”, mackerel in tomato sauce. We’ll use some creative substitutes for mackerel (no fish breath will result and tastes much better!)

Leverpostei

Liver paté is perhaps the most popular spread, along with cheese and meat slices. We’ll get creative and make a decadent paté you can serve on any occasion!

Italiensk salat

Shredded vegetables enveloped in a creamy sauce, this is another popular spread we call “Italian salad”. Delicious and refreshing!

Plus… you’ll get a bonus recipe for a Norwegian whole grain, multi-seed bread, and tips for snacks for the lunch box!

Sunny is a native of Norway and a professionally trained chef and wine consultant with nearly 20 years of experience in the food and wine industry. She had her own catering company for seven years, and today she is a vegan food blogger and digital creator with a special focus on Norwegian cuisine.

Sunny is the founder of The Plant Curious Table, a plant-based food and beverage company delivering digital content to educate consumers about how to cook with plants and drink deliciously.
