NORVEGAN CHRISTMAS COOKIES
Join me in this virtual baking class and let’s make four of Norway’s most popular Christmas cookies!
Free of dairy and eggs but full of flavor!
Norwegians are known for their great commitment to baking a plethora of cookies for Christmas. In fact, the unofficial “rule” which originated over 100 years ago, says each household with respect for themselves should bake at least 7 different varieties to ring in the holiday!
So you can imagine we take pride in this tradition, which is why I wanted to share some of these delightful treats with you and demonstrate some of the most popular cookies.
And while we’re baking, I will share some stories about other Norwegian customs around this very special time of year.
Whether you are baking for Christmas, another holiday, or just a regular old Tuesday, these cookies will make the most discerning tummies happy!

BAKING CLASS
Here’s what we’ll be baking together:
Krumkaker
Krumkaker is synonymous with Christmas in Norway, and these thin, beautiful patterned cone-shaped cookies are a perfect vessel for filling with whipped cream (maybe with some cloudberry jam if you have!) or just snacking on its own. These look so festive on your coffee table!
Brune Pinner
These simple but delicious and soft cookies have a caramel flavor to them combined with cinnamon and chopped nuts, it’s everything you want in a Christmas cookie. Warning: they will disappear before you can put them away in the jar so you might as well make a double batch!
Serinakaker
These buttery sugar cookies topped with sliced almonds can be deceiving by their look only, but once you bite into them you will be sold! Delicate and with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency, they are everything you’d want in a comforting Christmas cookie.
Peppernøtter
Filled with the warming holiday spices of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove with a healthy dose of black pepper, these cookies are positively addictive and easier to bake than pepperkaker. They might just become your new favorite!
