The Menu:
Norwegian Meatballs
Kjøttkaker
Tender, savory meatballs served in rich brown gravy with boiled potatoes that taste exactly like the traditional comfort food classic.
Swedish Meatballs
Kjöttbullar
Plant-based Swedish meatballs that are perfectly spiced spheres served in creamy sauce with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam that deliver the exact same cozy, satisfying taste as the original.
We’ll also cover the most popular sides for each dish:
Norwegian Side Dishes:
Stewed Cabbage (Kålstuing)
Mashed Peas (Ertestuing)
No Norwegian kjøttkaker are complete without mashed peas and stewed cabbage – you’ll learn to make both from scratch. Much better than any store bought version!
Swedish Side Dishes
Cream Gravy (Gräddsås)
Mashed Potatoes (Potatismos)
We’ll make the creamiest mashed potatoes and a creamy gravy that will rival any gravy you’ve had before… pure magic!
There are many similarities between Norwegian and Swedish meatballs but there are some slight differences that yield different results.
Hint: spices used when forming the mixture might vary as well as the side dishes.
Also, what are the differences between the gravies served?
In this class, you will learn about the traditions behind each version of meatballs. What connects us, what makes us different, and ultimately… why this dish is so widely popular in each country.
