Fastelavnsboller
The Norwegian variety of cream puffs is based on a cardamom-spiced bun that is filled with vanilla-scented whipped cream and topped with strawberry jam.
Semlor
The Swedish version of cream puffs is also based on a cardamom bun, but the filling consists of a mixture of marzipan, milk, and the insides of the bun.
Homemade marzipan or store-bought? You decide!
Homemade Marzipan + Whipped Cream
If you can’t find marzipan in your local store, make it yourself! It’s easier than you think… plus learn how to make the fluffiest vegan whipped cream!
Every February around “Fat Tuesday” Scandinavians whip up their versions of cream puffs based on delectable cardamom buns.
In this class you will learn how to make these buns and also what the differences are between the Swedish and Norwegian versions.
Swedes love their filling with marzipan, while Norwegians keep it slightly less sweet with whipped cream and jam.
Make both and have fun taste testing to see which country wins for the best cream puffs!
